Speech & Language Therapy for Families

Welcome to therapy for children and families, Wild Chorus style!

We know reaching out for help can be daunting, and you’re probably already pretty overwhelmed and exhausted. We also know choosing the right person to support you is important. Let’s see if we can help by answering some initial questions you might have.

What do you offer?

Well, the short answer is life-changing therapy for families of children with speech, language and communication needs!

Need a bit more than that?! Ok, fair enough. Read on for the long answer…

We work with families of children who speak differently to their peers and have trouble being understood, children who stammer, and/or those whose neurodivergence affects their communication quality of life.

They may have been diagnosed with or meet diagnostic criteria for speech disorders; speech sound disorders, speech motor delay, developmental verbal dyspraxia and / or developmental language disorder, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder or autism spectrum disorder / condition.

Although we understand and apply the science around these terms, and use them if they are in service to the person, we don't see this as who they are.

We accompany them, and you, to use the powers of their imagination, their unique qualities and values, and their wise bodies to discover and live new stories for their lives in which communication is a bridge rather than a barrier to connection and joy.

We always work with the family and communities around the child because we know that individuals grow in context of their most important relationships.

We also believe in building community – so that children and parents with shared lived experiences have the opportunity to meet and learn and grow together.

Why you?

Our lead therapist Holly Maya is a rare find. She brings a warmth and a well-crafted talent for holding therapeutic space that combined with her specialist knowledge and range of skills offers something unique.

She works closely with a like-minded team of associates, so you can be confident that you are in excellent and safe hands for the whole therapy journey and receive support that is expertly tailored to your needs and wishes.

Our therapy is forward-thinking; using trauma-informed, relational, neurodiversity friendly practices. By choosing us you help others through our social enterprise.

Our therapy also offers access to a community because we know that powerful healing and transformation happens this way, and that people with shared lived experiences can lift each other up in ways a single therapist or team of professionals cannot.

What sort of approaches can I expect?

We know that speech, language and communication skills are complex and (of course) involve the whole body in context of its environments and relationships. We use approaches that are FUN, informed by up-to-date research, and that we know from experience get REAL lasting results.

These include:

 - Creative arts: Music, voicework and storytelling.

- Narrative therapy (collaborating with the person to find and live their preferred life stories).

- Yoga and movement for sensory integration and embodied learning.

-  Attachment informed coaching for families.

- PROMPT approach - supporting integrated learning of new speech motor patterns in context of the dynamic system of the body. You can read more about PROMPT here.

- Somatics and trauma-informed practice.

- Linking with other professionals to offer high quality joined up care.

  • Who is this therapy for?

We would say that this therapy is for you if:

    • You are a parent, carer or helper of a child who is not developing communication skills as expected.

    • You may have accessed some therapy for them but not had much success or consistency.

    • You know that you are the experts in, and key people for your child but feel stuck in this particular area, are tired and need some help.

    • You want to work with someone who will be on your team! Who will listen carefully and offer a holistic, personalised experience that is therapeutic for all of your family.

    • You do not want to fix your child but want to support them to be the most healthy, happy version of their unique and wonderful self.

    • You are up for being an active part of the therapy process, reflecting and changing your own behaviour and exploring your own trauma if needed as part of this process; not because you are the problem, but because you are a powerful part of the solution.

    Rob, father of A

  • "It's rare to come across a healthcare professional with such a strong drive to support not only your child but the whole family. Holly's approach is holistic, careful and in-depth, she made thorough investigations to gain a full picture of [our child]'s needs and delivered a tailor made course of therapy which was adapted weekly if needed. This has made a huge difference to us all, we feel supported and I would highly recommend her services."

    – Tara, mother of H

  • "Holly Maya is a fantastic speech and language therapist! She has helped us tremendously, we can’t thank her enough. Our son has had considerable communication difficulties from birth. It has been difficult to find a suitable therapist who is capable and confident in adapting their way of working to suit our child’s needs. Holly has worked in a holistic manner to devise a successful pathway we can follow at home and to ensure in all areas of our son’s life he gets the correct support. Holly’s sessions are dynamic and fun and our little lad loves them – we would highly recommend!"
